Removals, Light removeals or Divorce
When it comes to removals or light removals...
there are a huge number of options, and you will have to consider your own personal circumstances. Are you moving a small amount of stuff, is what you are moving expensive (or very heavy like a piano), do you have a number of helpers that are willing and able (remember the episode of friends where they try to get the sofa up the stairs?), do you have to negotiate tight spaces or steps and stairs at either venue, do you…… well you get the picture. .
There is so much to consider. Don’t underestimate the contents of a small house – you may not think that you actually have many possessions but you will be surprised how long they take to move. Think about insurance of the possessions while you are moving them. Think about what happens if one of your friends injures themselves while helping you move. The possibilities with moving are endless but perhaps if we consider at one end of the scale, a family emigrating, and at the other end of the scale, two students moving a sofa a few streets. Most things will fall somewhere between these two.
In terms of who is going to help you, there are a number of options.
Professional removal companies – these provide the lorry or lorries, and the staff required to move everything. You can even pay them to pack everything so you walk out of the house as it is and leave them to do the rest. Obviously this is the most expensive option but also the least stressful for you. If your move is being paid for by somebody else (your new employer for example) then this is the obvious choice. Approach a number of companies with your proposed moving date and get quotes. Get at least three quotes and also ask companies if they can do the move cheaper a few days earlier or later – sometimes the price is based on availability. Ask for details about insurance for broken or damaged items, and make sure that they are aware of special items of value – either monetary or sentimental.
If a professional company is out of your price range or perhaps more than you need then consider either a van hire or a taxi van. A van hire is just that – a van. You need to provide all the labour and you drive the van – make sure that you have a full driving license and all necessary paperwork. You usually hire the van for the day, and you need to make sure that you are confident driving a larger vehicle. You will need to collect the van and then return it at the end of the day – consider this if the distances that need to be covered are large. What is the latest time that you can return the van?
Whoever said that moving house is more stressful than a divorce, had clearly never moved house, had a divorce, or had the benefit of the information contained on this website. Good luck with your move!
